Dolly Parton's Legacy: Preserved
After the announcement of Dolly Parton's passing, millions of people around the world published their tributes to the iconic musician and humanitarian.
The Mellon Foundation paid homage to where it all started: Dolly's first single, "Puppy Love." After researching our grant database, I found that the master recording of "Puppy Love" was preserved by a Mellon grantee, the Southern Folklife Collection. I quickly pitched the idea, which went through several layers of executive and legal review.
I sourced the footage, edited the video, and wrote copy for the final post, which received more than 10K views.
Met Gala: Superfine
As audiences around the world tuned in to the preparations for the 2025 Met Gala, I recognized a trend of creators highlighting the scholarly inspiration for the theme, specifically Dr. Monica Miller's book "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity."
I found that Dr. Miller was a two-time Mellon Foundation grant awardee. In addition to writing the book that inspired the theme, Dr. Miller would be the guest curator of the Met Costume Institute's exhibit. I quickly sourced photos of Dr. Miller and pitched the idea to highlight her Mellon connection.
